With reference to Colonial Office letter No. 53863/37 14 of 8th December, 1937, I am directed by Mr. Secretary Eden

to state for the information of the Secretary of State for

the Colonies that Dr. R.C. Robertson, M.D., M.R.C.S. has

been appointed Epidemic Commissioner and leader of the

British Unit to be sent out to China under the auspices of

the League of Nations in accordance with its scheme of

medical aid set out in League paper No. C 524M563 of 22nd

October, 1937, a copy of which is enclosed for convenience

of reference.

2. Dr. Robertson's present position is that of the

Head of the Division of Pathology and Bacteriology at

the Lester Institute of Medical Research, Shanghai. The

Unit will, when complete, comprise three other British doctors in addition to Dr. Robertson, but candidates to fill

these posts have not yet been selected.

In addition to the British Unit, German-speaking

and French-speaking units, headed by Dr. H. Mooser and Dr. A. Lasnet respectively, are being sent out and their members left for China on 10th December by the S.S. "André

Lebon" from Marseilles. Dr. Robertson proposes to leave
